Parking Tickets

I am a strong proponent of public transportation. I am not a fan of driving as it is a strain on productivity and a detriment to the environment. Moreover, driving is a another way to get into trouble with the law. Driving too slow, too fast, while intoxicated or not driving at all are all scenarios where a police officer can give you a ticket and more.

How can not driving at all get one into trouble you ask? Well if you were to park near a meter and you were unable to fill the meter with quarters is one way. Or if you park on a street between 6 am to 9 am but are not allowed to park on that side of the street because it is street cleaning day.

Well, just today, I saw a man get ticketed for parking in a "no parking" spot on the side of the street. The police officer didn't even need to hand him the ticket in person. The officer just wrote the man's license plate on the ticket and I assume the man will receive his ticket in the mail.

This event reminded me of my own moment this past week. I walked out to my car and heard a horn sound. But I did not look back to it as I was in a hurry. As I entered my car I saw in the side mirror a mini police car, the one that is used for people to write parking tickets. On my front windshield I did not see the parking ticket, so I was ready to leave. But just as I was about to leave, I stuck my head out the window to see if he needed anything from me. He waved for me to go. So at that point, I felt lucky that I didn't get ticketed.

But after today and seeing that man, I have a feeling that I may also be receiving a ticket in the mail. That's not too good. Grant it, I am at fault. But my general thoughts are that, if I didn't need to drive, I wouldn't be fined. Public transportation, via subways and buses is the way to go. It can be environmentally friendly and economically productive.
