Chinese New Year 2007

February 18th, 2007 will be Chinese New Year. 2007 will be the year of the Boar. With Chinese New Year, there are lots of festivities in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and even the U.S. In cities like Boston, New York, and San Francisco there are Chinese New Year festivals held in Chinatown to celebrate the new year.

For families, one of the most important days of the year is the day before the Chinese New Year. It is on Chinese New Year's Eve where families have their "Reunion" dinners. This is the "Thanksgiving" for most Asian cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year.

In cities like Hong Kong, where everything seems to be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, this is the period of the year where things slow down just a bit. Why? Because many Hong Kong residents go back to China to celebrate the New Year with their family.

If I was living in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan, I would have at least 5 days of holiday. Overall the Chinese New Year period lasts for 15 days.
